Aside from the immediately recognizable samples, “a lot of the MIDI was made through granular synthesis of sounds from within the movie. I really made an effort to make every sound I could come from the film. Sometimes I even used the impact of a motorcycle or things like that to make drum sounds.”

Ryu (born May 31, 1992), short for Ryusaku (竜作, Ryūsaku), is a comrade of Kei’s in the resistance movement. As the story progresses, Ryu abandons his terrorist roots and becomes more heroic, working with Yamada and guiding Kaneda to Akira’s chamber where Tetsuo is held up, but battles with alcoholism.

At the end of the movie, Tetsuo says cryptically “I am Tetsuo.” He exists. That line could possibly be an allegorical reference (i.e. creation of the universe, similar to Abrahmic god’s first words) but it is definitely a sign that Tetsuo is not merged with Akira and still exists as an independent entity.
