What is the AGPT Program? The AGPT Program trains doctors to become GPs. It provides full-time, on-the-job training for Australian and overseas-trained doctors who want to specialise in general practice. The program offers 1,500 training places in cities and regional, rural and remote areas of Australia each year.

Membership of the RACGP National Faculty for GPs in Training is free, and open to any RACGP member who satisfies the following criteria:

  1. Medical students and pre-vocational doctors interested in General Practice training;
  2. Any doctor on a recognised pathway towards FRACGP;
  3. New Fellows within 5 years of Fellowship.

You can apply for the AGPT Program any time from your intern year onwards. Applications for the 2023 AGPT first intake open at 10.00 am (AEDT) on Monday 21 March 2022 and close at 11.59 pm (AEST) on Tuesday 19 April 2022.

When do applications open and close for the 2022 AGPT?

Applications for ACRRM opened on August 9, and closed on August 30. While the 2022 intake is now closed you can still express interest in the 2023 intake via the ACCRM website. RACGP applications opened on August 30, and close on September 21. This is your last chance to apply for the 2022 AGPT intake.

How do I apply for RPL on the AGPT program?

Registrars can be awarded a maximum of two years RPL on the AGPT program. Registrars must submit an application for RPL through their training provider. The training provider must support your application and check that it is complete and has the required supporting documentation, prior to submitting the application to the College.
