Is lapping scope rings really necessary?
When using some designs of scope mounts, lapping is recommended to get the best performance. Lapping can increase the amount of surface contact between the ring and scope tube, and also help with proper alignment between the scope rings.

Does a 795 need a 10/22?
On the other hand, it doesn’t need it. Out of the box, many people, including myself, maintain the 795 is superior to the 10/22, and that only through additional modification and upgrades can a 10/22 beat out a stock 795.
