Should you sand between coats of Arm-R-Seal?
Proper sanding will separate a great result from a poor one. When using any of our topcoats, such as High Performance, Gel Satin, Arm-R-Seal or Exterior 450, sand between coats with a 220 sanding pad or 400-grit sand paper. If you want an even smoother finish, you can finish with a grit as high as 600.

Apply a liberal amount of Wipe-On Poly to a clean, soft, lint-free cloth and rub it into the wood. Let dry 2-3 hours. Then lightly sand entire surface with fine sandpaper (220 grit) to ensure an even finish and proper adhesion. Remove all dust.
How do you mix clear and thin varnish?
Experts suggest using 20-25 percent thinner for the first coat of varnish, and 5-10 percent for subsequent coats. For instance, if you pour three quarters of a cup of varnish for your first coat, add one quarter cup of thinner. For subsequent cups, you can pour 9 ounces of varnish and 1 ounce of thinner.
