What is imprinting in clay?

An original imprint of a hand or foot preserved in clay. Clay imprints are fantastic preservations of a moment in life; the size of a new baby’s foot or the collection of family handprints all captured in a bespoke clay design. Imprints are an amazing keepsake for parents or a perfect gift for family members.

How do you imprint leaves in clay?

  1. Arrange your leaf. Lay a small leaf on the wax paper, vein side up.
  2. Prep your clay.
  3. Set the clay ball on the leaf.
  4. Remove the leaf.

How do you make a clay leaf disc?

When soft and pliable enough, roll the clay into a ball and then use a rolling pin to flatten it out into a disc. I’d recommend it is not thicker than 2cm or else it will be hard to shape later. When happy with the disc shape and size, check that the chosen leaf will actually fit onto it, and then place it carefully down onto the surface.

How do you condition clay before painting?

 If your clay is new, though, you will need to condition it by rolling it for a few minutes until is softens.  I like to work with clay on wax paper or parchment paper to protect my work surface. Roll it out to about 1/4 inch.
