What is BankAxept?
BankAxept is the national payment system in Norway, used both physically and eventually digitally. It is an open system, so that anyone that has concession to operate bank business in Norway can join the network.
Where can I use my BankAxept card?
BankAxept cards work at all Norwegian ATMs and payment terminals. The majority of debet cards issued in Norway are so-called combined cards, meaning that they have both BankAxept and either Visa or Mastercard.
Why is BankAxept more prone to debit card fraud?
Because the customers have to use a PIN code in the BankAxept system, but not with many other systems, it is also much more frequent that stolen debit cards are abused in card fraud with merchants that only have an agreement with the international payment systems and online.
What is the difference between a BankAxept and a Visa/MasterCard?
As a general rule, the BankAxept part of the card is used for domestic purchases, while the Visa/Mastercard part is used for international purchases. Contactless cards make payments easier and faster.
