Can you sleep on the Salt Flats in Utah?
You can sleep right out on the Salt Flats! It’s BLM land, so we slept right where you see these photos. I would highly suggest sleeping in your vehicle if you are anywhere close to the “road,” because there are often people who drive at night time, and it may be hard to see someone camping.
Is it legal to drive on the Salt Flats?
Yes, you can drive on the salt flats, but you need to be careful. I can’t include the link here, but go to the blm.gov Website, search for “Bonneville” and click the first link. On the right side of the page, click “Travel Advisory”. Take the access road to the viewing area cul-de-sac with the information signs.
Can you get married at the Salt Flats?
The Bonneville Salt Flats are the perfect place to get married! The Salt Flats are open year round, the white salt flats are like a blank canvas where you can create whatever elopement you want, they’re super accessible so no hiking required, they can be just the first stop on an epic Utah adventure!
Can you have a fire at the salt flats?
There are no surface improvements or signs on the Salt Flats after the paved access road ends. Food, fuel, lodging and other services are available at Exit 4 or in the nearby town of Wendover. and fireworks are prohibited on the Salt Flats to maintain public health and safety, and to protect natural resources.
Do people camp on the salt flats?
Overnight stays are prohibited on the salt flats. Camping is encouraged on surrounding public lands. Private campgrounds and hookups are available in nearby Wendover, ten miles west of the Bonneville Salt Flats. Other accommodations and services are also available in Wendover.
Can you drive as fast as you want on the Bonneville Salt Flats?
You can easily drive onto the Salt Flats with just about any type of vehicle. The salt is hard. As long as you stay out of other drivers’ way, there is nothing to hit, and you can drive as fast and far as you dare.
How do you elope at salt flats?
Two witnesses must sign your marriage license as well – but, this doesn’t mean you can’t elope without guests! The only requirement is that they be over 18, so any of your elopement vendors can sign. You can even find some people at the salt flats to sign for you– people are always super excited to help out!
Can you sleep overnight on the Bonneville Salt Flats?
The Bonneville Salt Flats Access Road is paved. Depending on your comfort level and current conditions, you may continue driving onto the salt flats past the end of the road. Visiting and driving on the Salt Flats is free, unless there is a permitted event. No overnight camping on the salt flats.
